The Nook.

November 30th I move into my new office. A small space of XX square foot. It is the ground floor office in a building I own and am landlord of.

My intention is to make it something close to perfect, over time. A tiny take on Casey Neistat’s work space in NY, but less tech-content-factory and more writing-reading-crafting nook. That’s it, a nook, or, The Nook. Let’s go with that, The Nook. Inspired by the study of Malcolm Guite. The creation of which will be just as creative an output as anything created in it. With shelving and drawers full of books and curiosities, a scalpel and magazines ready to be cut up for collage, an old butchers block re-purposed as standing desk space, a large, preloved armchair, to sink into and think, metallic shelving from some old workshop, a radio, yes, a DAB radio. There is no reason why this office can’t be mine for years and years. But! Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. To begin, the collecting of keys from the managing agent.

This is all well and good, but what of the habit? How does one develop the habit. By which perhaps I mean, how does one shake the habit, of distraction, specifically distraction via the internet. The great void of everything and nothing, whose gravitational pull, softens the nerves and dulls the mind. That will be the hurdle, not just the first but the continuing hurdle.

Create! Time is slipping away, or at the very least trucking on. Create the space, read the words, then write the words, profess your love to all that is. Remember Paris, forget Berlin, imagine Japan and trust your instincts.

Perhaps a camera, elevated in the corner of the room, which can live stream me in the office, straight onto YouTube, on mute.
